Orchid Type 29 Protected Species Act

In Indonesia, 29 species of orchid species have been protected according to the Law of Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999 on Plant and Animal Preservation (3 species included in Appendix I and 26 species included in Appendix II).

According to Kris Heriyanto, orchid species are protected but not included in the CITES Appendices, such as: Dendrobium lowii in appendix I, Phalaenopsis amabilis in Appendix II and Bulbophyllum lobbii signed in Appendix II.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is the Convention on International Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora Rare (consensus various countries). The purpose of CITES to ensure that wild fauna and flora international traded excessively exploited not / was not sustainable.

Indonesia ratified CITES on the basis of the decision Prsiden No. 43 In 1978 the Management Authority; DG Dep. Forestry and the Scientific Authority; LIPI.

There are five main points on which the establishment of the convention, are:

2. Increased value of plants and wildlife to humans

3. The existence of the role of society and the state in an effort to protect plants and wildlife.

4. Growing urgency of an international cooperation to protect these species from over exploitation (over-exploitation) through control of international trade.

5. To achieve these objectives, the types on the basis of its rarity which is determined by the Conference of the Parties of CITES digolongkon in Appendix 3 or the group, which is Appendix I, II and III.

Appendix I is the international trade (the commercial) is prohibited unless all of the exhibit.

Appendix II is an international trade is allowed but controlled through quotas.

Appendix III of international trade is allowed but controlled the oversight by the other countries (pembatsan generally lighter than its trade with the Appendix II).

Views on issues of orchids:

a. To protect the natural orchids (species), communities, local governments and related areas where the orchid is growing need to get information, capacity building and the support so as to keep the policy in order to avoid making excessive orchids.

b. Need to build mechanisms for sharing benefits society, as an incentive in maintaining the ecosystem where orchids grow.

c. Exploration of the introduction of natural orchid species (species) is still desperately needed.

d. The importance of research and development to support the cultivation of orchids and seedlings.

e. Policy and trade related law enforcement needs taken care of orchids, so the effort to keep trade and utilization of sustainable conservation of orchids.

Utilization Orchid

All orchid species and propagation of hybrid can be used (especially Appendix I of CITES must be registered in skretariat CITES). The results of the multiplication of species, species protected and / or Appendix I of CITES, not allowed to be exported.
